Best Films of 2006

It's about this time of year where critics (paid and armchair alike) put together their "Best of" lists for 2006. So, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and produce my very own list.

It was quite difficult to cull the list down, but I managed it. Criteria for judging is that these films must be ones that I saw in 2006 (which means I am leaving out a few great films that were released in the US in Nov/Dec and have yet to be screened here).

Best Films of 2006 (in no particular order)

  • Little Miss Sunshine
  • United 93
  • Cache (Hidden)
  • Brokeback Mountain
  • Casino Royale
  • The Beat That My Heart Skipped
  • Kenny
  • Walk the Line
  • Kinky Boots

Honourable Mentions

  • The Departed (though I though Jack Nicholson overacted in this one)
  • Tsotsi
  • Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont
  • Borat
  • Good Night & Good Luck
  • Brick

Looking ahead, there are several films that I'd quite like to see as they've garnered quite a bit of positive press, hopefully they'll screen here soon.
