Tonight is the second time the BF and I are doing the $30 Thursday "date" night.

Last week we got free tickets to a show, stuffed our faces at Kazu (great Japanese izakaya), strolled around Oriental Parade, shared a Magnum ice cream and all for the pretty low price of... $29! Yay us LOL.

Tonight we're doing beer and a few games of pool, followed by cheap noodles at Satay Kingdom on Left Bank. They do a great Mee Goreng (hold the bean sprouts though, they are mank! Euw yuck).

I had the day off yesterday, spend 3 and a half hours pampering myself. I had a massage, a facial, a manicure and a pedicure. The massage was wonderful, I really should have them more often, at least once a month. It was nice to be out of the office for a day, charge the batteries and relax.

I am also the proud new owner of GHD Straightening Irons. They're the ones the "professionals" use. There is this promotion on at the moment, trade in your old irons and get $100 of GHD. So, I took my old VS irons in and came out with the real deal. And they are worth every stinking penny *cough$250cough*. This morning, I did my hair as normal and the irons worked a treat. No frizzies, no flyaways. Perfectly straight hair. With my old irons, by about 3pm you couldn't tell I'd done anything with my hair. It's now 3.25pm and my hair looks super good, if I do say so myself! I was thinking of having my hair cut off (think cute pixie crop) but with the new irons, I've decided not to get the chop as I don't hate my hair so much now LOL.

I was reading in the paper last week a little stat that said the average person has 11 jobs in their life. Eleven? Seeing as I've always considered myself above average LOL, I tallied up my jobs (ones I got paid for) over the years and I came out at 22!

So, let's see...
  1. Babysitter
  2. Strawberry picker
  3. Deli worker
  4. Apple picker
  5. Apple thinner
  6. Vineyard worker
  7. Orchard worker
  8. Cafe worker
  9. Nanny
  10. Market Researcher
  11. Production Runner
  12. English Language Teacher
  13. Secretary/PA
  14. Human Resources Administrator
  15. Marketing Coordinator
  16. Office Manager
  17. English Language Teacher
  18. Website manager
  19. Temp PA to CEO
  20. Department Secretary at a university
  21. Network Coordinator
  22. Webmaster

Jobs 1-10 were when I was a student (first job was aged 13). Worst job was strawberry picking (back breaking), best job is the one I'm doing now (and also number 10, as I got to test, eat, use, talk about all sort of cool products LOL).

I had an interesting coversation with the BF last night about water. We were talking about water and how we like to drink it (yes, we have such scintillating conversations LOL). I like tap water at room temperature. Cannot drink ice cold water or water that's been chilled. Next I like sparkling mineral water at room temperature. I very rarely drink still, bottled water as the tap water here in NZ is pretty damn tasty and good so don't feel the need to spend $3 on a bottle of water that probably was bottled from the tap at a factory anyway LOL. The BF likes really icy cold bottled water. Won't drink "bubbly water" LOL. He will drink tap water and will often go out to Petone and fill up big bottles of Etruscean water from the natural spring out there. That is really nice, lovely water. (My geekness is shining through here with all this talk about water LOL).

I confess. I love geeks and nerds. (Not dorks though, a lack of social skills and being smelly aren’t appealing LOL).

I also confess to watching Beauty & The Geek. Such a cute show. I think some of the "geeks" are funny, quirky and adorable.

I loved Freaks and Geeks too. One of the funniest shows. I even remember lines from it too (now who’s the nerd?) LOL.

“The dance is tomorrow. She's a cheerleader, you've seen Star Wars 27 times. You do the math.”

“I'm Jewish. That's no cake-walk either. Last year I was elected school treasurer. I didn't even run!”

“You look a little bit like my grandpa”
“Oh, is your grandpa super cool?”

And I think Henry in Ugly Betty is just so sweet and darling.

Anyway, all this geek love came to the fore this week when I had a meeting with our website developers (most things computer related is the domain of the geek). This web company has some of the cutest geeks! The lead developer on “my” project gives Brad Pitt a run for his money. Seriously hot. Nice eyes and hands that I was constantly staring at during the meeting, had to give myself mental face slaps to stop doing it. He also has that whole "geek chic" look too - trendy jeans and a t-shirt with a vest over it. Old school Vans (sneakers).

The appeal of the nerd or geek is that they are smart. I like smart men. (David Beckham is the exception to this rule, but that's okay, he's talented with the football LOL).

The BF has some geek tendencies, he is very smart (one bachelor's degree, one masters degree, a post-grad film degree) and knows a shitload of stuff about flora, fauna, the ocean and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of films (he's ever so handy to have on a pub quiz team LOL).

He's also obsessive about gadgets (geeks love technology!). Especially any gadgets for diving. His dive watch for example has more controls than a car! It measures dive depth and duration, has a dive memory log, records water temperature, measures surface interval, has 180 day power reserve, 3 alarms, luminiscent lighting.... (still with me? LOL). Oh, and it can tell the time too LOL. It's obvious I know a lot about this watch (I guess I have a little bit of geek about me too then LOL).

I draw the line however, at sci-fi geeks and nerds. I find those people that dress up as characters from sci-fi programmes *coughtrekkiescough* odd. Oh, and the online fantasy gamers *coughworldofwarcraftcough* weird too. I guess there's a thin line between cool and not cool geeks LOL.

The BF and I haven't been spending much time together lately. We're both busy, he's working long hours on a new project and I'm doing more work now that I've had a promotion. So, we're just not getting a great deal of "us" time.

So, I had a brainwave (my one and only for today, limited stocks, don't want to waste them).

As much as I love being spontaneous, I think we need to have some kind of organised date each week (or, if we're too busy, every fortnight LOL). Something we can do together. Something to look forward to. Something fun.

Not sex though. I don't think I'm ready to schedule sex yet! Still like to keep that spontaneous... though looking back at the past weekend, maybe setting up a schedule might be a good thing *grumble grumble*. LOL

So, we've been emailing back and forth today with ideas for these dates.

Look at the list below and I'm sure you'll figure out quite quickly who's ideas are who's! LOL

  • $30 Thursday's (make use of the myriad of great cheap eateries in Wellington and go out for dinner and spend no more than $30 - fastfood a la BK, KFC, McDonald's is not allowed, and the $30 has to cover both of us!)
  • take learn to sail classes at Royal Port Nicholoson Yacht Club
  • twilight harbour kayak and BBQ organised by Ferg's Kayak's
  • pre-theatre dinner at Logan Brown followed by a play at Circa or Downstage
  • watch the whole series of Band of Brothers on DVD
  • check out Karori Wildlife Sanctuary
  • go to Citron for dinner and have the degustation menu
  • stay in and cook for your girlfriend night

All my ideas revolve around food and the consuming of it. Most of his are outdoorsy stuff.

But, the decision has been made. We're going to start the $30 Thursday's as at least we'd get to spend time together, alone. As opposed to sailing lessons or the kayak trip, which would be done in groups.

So, now we just need to figure out where to go for dinner on Thursday. I want Satay Kampong, but seeing as it's my idea, perhaps I'll let him pick the place.

There's this British comedy show that I've been watching clips of on You Tube. It doesn't air in NZ (please TVNZ, buy this!). But my parents sent me the first series on DVD and I got hooked.

It's hilarious.

It's the
Catherine Tate Show, and my favourite character is Lauren Cooper "Am I bovvered?". Followed by Nan Taylor (foul mouth, offensive racist nana - love her LOL).

Lauren clips here -

Nan clips here -

Beware, offensive language with some of those clips.

I loved the clip with Lauren and David Tennant for Comic Relief. And the Deal or No Deal for Comic Relief too. Very very funny. Very clever.

I really miss quality British comedy shows. There are far too many below average, decidedly unfunny shows screening here (mostly drivel like "My Wife & Kids" or "King of Queens", ugh).

But humour is subjective. I'm sure some will not find Catherine Tate funny. But I do LOL.

I will never:

1. Have one of those glamour photos done. Tacky and naff. The soft focus doesn't disguise anything people LOL.

2. Hold hands in public with a bloke. Just not my thing. No hand holding, touching, arms around each other. Nothing. Just walk over there away from me LOL

3. Eat natto. Just looking at it makes me feel sick, god I even remember the smell *gag*. It was the one thing I refused eat when I lived in Japan (I even ate sparrow and horse, so that tells you how foul this natto stuff is!)

4. Wear a pearl necklace. Even talking about them makes me snigger (pearl necklace is also referred to when a bloke *ahem* cums on your neck/chest after either a blow job or em, titty fuck) LOL. So you can see why when my Nana talk about getting a pearl necklace, I cringe!

5. Go camping. I hyperventilate as soon as I'm more than 15 minutes from a decent coffee.

6. Touch a bird, or anything with feathers. I have this irrational fear of feathers, they completely freak me out. Needless to say, I've never worn and will never wear a feather boa LOL.

7. Get over my obsession with David Beckham. I don't care that he has a weird voice, the man can play football like a god and is hot. Abso-freaking-lutely hot. Just look at these pictures taken recently LOL.

8. Take drugs again (dope doesn't count, nor does alcohol LOL). I'm talking the class A stuff.

9. Watch a game of rugby without commenting on someones hunky thighs. It's an impossibility! Have you seen the thighs on someone like Dan Carter or Richie McCaw? Well, if you did, you'd have to comment on how nice they were LOL.

10. Bungy jump. Are you kidding? Jump off into a deep abyss with little more than a giant rubber band wrapped around your ankles? Yeah right! LOL

I've been acting like the 8th Dwarf for the past few days. Her name is Bitchy!

I'm just tired, working on these festivals away from home, staying in hotels, working long hours and not eating properly makes me cranky.

I've not been particularly nice today, the poor boyfriend has bore the brunt of it. When he disappeard for a few hours this evening I thought he'd finally had enough (he had LOL). So I was pleasantly surprised when he came back clutching a big bar of chocolate and this weeks Woman's Day magazine all for me. Oh bless him. What a man. Sigh. (Imagine heart-shaped pupils in my eyes LOL).

I think it's a given that I'll rock his socks off tonight in bed LOL.

My trip to London in May (and Spain/France/Portugal) is off. I'm a little bummed.

So, I've decided to go somewhere else instead. Probably Vietnam. I've been to Thailand many times (one year I went 6 times in 8 months and the authorities became interested in me as they thought I was a drug smuggler. Nope, no dope, just flying via Bangkok a lot to get to other destinations LOL), and Cambodia/Laos (did the "Golden Triangle") but Vietnam will be a new place for me.

Not sure if I'll do a group trip. I'm not really the group travel type of person. All my travelling around the place has been on my own, so I'm not sure if I can cope with it. However, the appeal is that someone else has already organised everything LOL.

I'll have to investigate further - I think Intrepid Travel is probably the company that I'll go with if I decide to do a group tour. Otherwise, I'll be using a trusty Lonely Planet guidebook to plan stuff.

I'll be doing the trip by myself too, much to the annoyance of the BF, who feels that he should be able to tag along LOL.

I've been thinking lately of all the things I want to do. Big things, little things. Fun things, scary things.

So I made a list (because I am an excellent list maker, it's one thing I do LOL). I've got no time limit on when I want to achieve these, but I'd definitely like to cross at least 5 things off the list this year.

Here are the edited hightlights (it was a long list, two sides on an A4 peice of paper LOL).

  • Dance around the house more
  • Be a volunteer for migrant services
  • Look after my skin better
  • Smile when I answer the phone
  • Act more ladylike
  • Go scuba diving
  • Be a better listener
  • Do more outdoor activities like biking and tramping (hiking)
  • Eat sweetbreads
  • Buy the BBC Pride & Prejudice boxed DVD set
  • Re-connect with RB, who I miss a lot
  • Buy those Christian Louboutin shoes LOL
  • Have a threesome (just checking you're reading LOL)
  • Drive a truck
  • Forgive MK, it's been 11 years and probably time to move on
  • Have an overseas holiday every year
  • Cook a roast (I've never done one LOL)
  • Wake up early in the morning
  • Walk the Milford Track
  • Learn Spanish

Pretty achieveable, right?
